Connecting to home Wi-Fi
Here’s how to get any device onto the home Wi-Fi — your own phone, a new tablet, a laptop, or a visitor who just needs to get online. It’s the same idea on every device: pick the network name, type the password once, and you’re set.
On an iPhone or iPad
Section titled “On an iPhone or iPad”- Open Settings → Wi-Fi and make sure Wi-Fi is on.
- Under Networks, tap the network name from the box above.
- Type the password (it’s case-sensitive — capitals matter) and tap Join.
- A blue checkmark means you’re connected. You only do this once per device.
On an Android phone or tablet
Section titled “On an Android phone or tablet”- Open Settings → Network & internet → Wi-Fi (wording varies a little by phone).
- Tap the network name from the box above.
- Enter the password and tap Connect.
On a laptop
Section titled “On a laptop”- Windows: click the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom-right corner → pick the network → Connect → type the password.
- Mac: click the Wi-Fi icon in the top-right corner → pick the network → type the password.
On a smart TV or streaming box
Section titled “On a smart TV or streaming box”Open the TV’s Settings → Network → Wi-Fi, pick the network, and type the password with the remote. (Slow to type? Most have a phone-app remote that’s easier.)
Visitors: use the Guest network
Section titled “Visitors: use the Guest network”If you’re visiting, hop on the Guest network from the box above. It gets you online for browsing, email, and streaming — no main-network password needed.
When it won’t connect
Section titled “When it won’t connect”- Double-check the password — capital letters and
0vsOtrip everyone up. Retype it slowly. - “Incorrect password” but you’re sure it’s right? Tap Forget this network, then pick it again and re-enter the password fresh.
- Connected but no internet? Restart the device, or see Internet is down? Restart the router.
- Still stuck? Text Stephen with which device you’re on — he can read the password to you or get you on the guest network.
